There is no successful European integration without the voice of local authorities

Borboly Csaba participated as workshop moderator in a professional consultation focused on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, the role of local authorities, and opportunities for European cooperation.

The central topic of the discussion was how local and regional authorities can become meaningfully involved in European integration processes. Participants emphasized that municipalities are not merely executors of decisions made at the central level, but community actors who are in direct contact with people, understand everyday challenges, and can deliver concrete results.

The workshop also addressed cooperation between municipal associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the more effective use of European funding opportunities, and the fact that EU standards bring real progress only when their impact is felt in the lives of local communities.

As moderator of the discussion, Borboly Csaba drew attention to the need to strengthen the local level in order to ensure the success of European integration. Development projects, the improvement of public services, and more transparent decision-making are all areas in which local authorities play an essential role.

One of the important conclusions of the consultation was that Europe’s future depends not only on institutional decisions, but also on the extent to which municipalities and local communities are involved in joint work.
