We are building a green county!

On Friday 9 February, REPER21 – the European Network for Promoting a Responsible Economy in the
21st Century as national coordinator organised the hybrid event dedicated to the European Climate
Pact.
The European Climate Pact is the framework that ensures awareness and citizen action on climate
change mitigation and adaptation.
Every year, the European Commission selects Climate Ambassadors based on an action plan, and
Borboly Csaba, President of Harghita County Council, is one of the 31 Climate Ambassadors in Romania.
During the event, the climate initiatives in Harghita County were discussed, in this context it was
considered an example of best practice.
Thus, Borboly Csaba, President of Harghita County Council, present online at the event, underlined :
"Over the last two years, since the launch of the Climate Pact Ambassadorship, we have witnessed the
impressive mobilization of members and local communities in achieving our common goals. However, it
is essential to underline the need for increased support from the European Commission and to
strengthen the role of local and regional authorities in energy and climate governance. As a member of
the European Committee of the Regions, responsible for coordinating activities related to the European
Green Pact, I have had the privilege of being rapporteur of opinions on climate action. These include
issues such as the socially equitable implementation of the Green Deal and resource efficiency
opportunities in the buildings sector."
Borboly Csaba is currently working on the opinion on the protection of biodiversity and coexistance with
large carnivores in Europe, highlighting the importance of biodiversity and the need to protect it.
Harghita County Council has joined the European Committee of the Regions' "Trees for Life" campaign,
which aims to plant 50,000 seedlings annually, in line with the European Commission's target of planting
3 billion trees by 2030.
Borboly Csaba encouraged those present to get actively involved in Climate Pact initiatives such as the
Climate Walk, an initiative developed this year to involve citizens in climate action.
"As the organiser of a similar event last year, I can confirm that these actions are beneficial in every way,
helping to strengthen the local community and raise awareness about climate change. As Climate
Ambassadors we need to ensure that we have adequate political visibility to successfully promote the
objectives of the Green Deal at local and regional level", added Borboly Csaba.
