Stop the mafia and fake news regarding the bears!
Borboly Csaba: we launch a campaign against the bear mafia; we act locally and internationally on legal and scientific grounds
On Thursday, 12th of May 2022, an international campaign was launched, presented by Borboly Csaba, president of Harghita County Council, during a press conference held in front of the headquarters of the county council. He drew attention to the interests that already indicated a mafia activity and intends to act legally and scientifically.
The beginning of the fight against the mafia was signaled by a poster dropped from the facade of the institution building. The message is not just for locals, it is also a call to Brussels and Europe as well. It urges compliance with Article 22 of the Romanian Constitution, which guarantees the right to human life and the physical and mental integrity of the persons, as well as with Article 16 of Council Directive 92/43/EEC, which concerns compliance with the rules on the protection of natural habitats and to the protection of wild animals.
Borboly Csaba also appealed to journalists, non-governmental organizations, researchers, and academics, because human life is a priority and would like to take action against the situation, fake news, and illegal procedures.
„Human life is still not taken into account when tackling bear problems. There are a lot of fake news, misinformation about deforestation, the effectiveness of electric fences, and disturbing of bear habitats. Therefore a bear mafia has appeared, not only at the local level but also at EU level which generates a conflict situation and refutes rational arguments, leaving them without credibility. We have to take action in this regard. We campaign against the mafia’s arguments to defend ourselves scientifically and to support the real situation. We invite journalists, ONGs, researchers, and students, who want to take the initiative in this situation, to contact us. We initiate legal forums, we have contacted a lawyer for this process. Wherever in the press will appear fake news in this regard, we will initiate measures to correct them” said Borboly Csaba.
