Regional Innovation Valley – Harghita County can lead the way in innovation in the region
The European Commission has recognised the efforts of the Harghita County Council
Following a call for proposals launched by the European Commission in March 2023, Harghita County has applied to become a partner in the field of innovation in the area of food safety:
– Harghita County has been put on the map, strengthening our innovation efforts and allowing us to draw on resources. Resources will become available that can bring additional knowledge to our county in the field of research and innovation. For us, this qualification is not only a distinction, but also a step towards development. These programmes will help us to ensure that EU funding and opportunities do not bypass Harghita County and that our interests are represented,” said Csaba Borboly, President of Harghita County Council, thanking the Department for International Relations of the County Council.
As he explained, many applicants from all over Europe applied, attracted by the significant resources available, but only a few were selected. We will have access to special central funds in the coming years, making us an important reference point on the EU’s innovation map.
The new initiative aims to develop European innovation ecosystems and better connect innovation actors across Europe, including in lagging regions, co-funded by Horizon Europe and Cohesion Policy. This is in response to the call by the European Committee of the Regions, of which Csaba Borboly has been a permanent member since 2012, to close the innovation gap and increase coordination between the different EU instruments supporting innovation ecosystems in European regions.
