– Congratulations and thank you to the Department of International Relations of the Harghita County Council for the work done. Many applicants from all over Europe applied, attracted by the significant resources available, but only a few were selected. In the coming years, we will have access to special central funds, making us an important reference point on the EU innovation map”, assessed Csaba Borboly, President of the Harghita County Council.
As he stressed, the efforts of the Harghita County Council have been recognised by the European Commission, the County Council has demonstrated its commitment to improve, coordinate and manage its investments and policies in the field of research and innovation in line with EU priorities, committing to interregional innovation cooperation with other regions, based on common or complementary smart solutions, and to strengthen the regional innovation ecosystem and link it with other regions, creating interconnected regional innovation valleys.
Thus, on 19 June 2024, during an official European Commission event, Harghita County will be awarded the Regional Innovation Valley label.
The new initiative aims to develop European innovation ecosystems and better connect innovation actors across Europe, including lagging regions, co-funded by Horizon Europe and Cohesion Policy. This is in response to the call by the European Committee of the Regions, of which Csaba Borboly has been a permanent member since 2012, to close the innovation gap and increase coordination between the different EU instruments supporting innovation ecosystems in European regions.
