Harghita County Actively Represents the Interests of Rural Communities in European Decision-Making
Csaba Borboly, Vice President of the Harghita County Council and member of the European Committee of the Regions, is actively participating in the European Union’s strategic discussions on the green transition and youth retention. Recently, he has taken on a new role as Chair of the Working Group on Bosnia and Herzegovina, nominated by the European People’s Party (EPP), further strengthening Harghita County’s presence in the European political arena.
During the meetings held in Brussels, Csaba Borboly emphasized that the green transition, energy sovereignty, and youth retention are not only urban issues but primarily concern rural areas. The amendment proposals submitted today aim to ensure that the support and development opportunities available through the #GreenDeal also reach smaller communities, including Harghita County. The focus is on creating local green jobs, developing energy communities, and implementing related vocational training.
“Now is the time for us to decide together what kind of Székely Land we want: a region where young people don’t leave, but instead find opportunities and build a future,” said Csaba Borboly.
He expressed his gratitude to the European People’s Party for nominating him as Chair of the Working Group on Bosnia and Herzegovina. During today’s meeting, both the Committee of the Regions and Harghita County reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the European Union as soon as possible. “The future of Europe is not decided only in capitals, but in local communities, where ambition and cooperation are our greatest resources,” he added.
Csaba Borboly stressed that supporting younger generations and coordinating local development are essential to ensure that Székely communities remain livable and sustainable in the long term. The ongoing discussions in Brussels are centered around these principles – and Harghita County is not only participating in them, but actively shaping them.
