Election of the CoR Working Group Presidency for Bosnia and Herzegovina — a commitment to local and regional voices
Date: 23 September 2025
I am pleased to announce that Csaba Borboly (RO, EPP), Vice-President of Harghita County Council, has been elected President of the new European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Working Group for Bosnia and Herzegovina. This appointment opens a new phase of dialogue and cooperation at the local and regional level between the European Union and the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Why this role matters
Strong and well-represented local and regional voices make the European integration process more democratic, pragmatic, and connected to the real needs of citizens. In this role, Borboly aims to highlight the practical experience of local authorities, facilitate the exchange of good practices, and enhance support for the European path of partners in BiH.
“I take on this responsibility with a deep sense of duty and awareness of the delicate moment in EU–Bosnia and Herzegovina relations. My priority will be to listen attentively to local and regional politicians in BiH — only then can the integration process truly be anchored in the needs of the people.” — Csaba Borboly
Mandate priorities
· Active listening to local and regional authorities in BiH to identify concrete needs.
· Strengthening practical partnerships between EU and BiH administrations.
· Promoting cross-border cooperation projects and the exchange of good practices in areas such as public administration, local economic development, and local governance.
· Supporting an integration process that is inclusive, pragmatic, and results-oriented for citizens.
First inaugural meeting
During the inaugural meeting of the Working Group, members discussed the current state of EU–BiH relations and concrete steps to intensify dialogue at the local and regional level. Participants emphasized the importance of continuous consultation with Bosnian authorities to ensure effective and sustainable cooperation.
Together for a common future
By actively involving local and regional representatives, we can turn challenges into opportunities. Cross-border cooperation, know-how exchange, and supporting local initiatives are key to preparing a shared future within the European Union.
