Csaba Borboly appointed rapporteur of the AgoraEU programme in the Committee of the Regions
Press Release – AgoraEU
In Brussels, the Committee of the Regions announced that Csaba Borboly, Vice-President of Harghita County Council, has been appointed rapporteur for the new AgoraEU programme.
AgoraEU will run from 2028 to 2034 with a budget of €8.6 billion. The programme aims to strengthen civic participation, involve young people, enhance transparency in public life, and support civil society organisations, local authorities, youth communities, churches, and cultural actors. A significant share of the funds will be dedicated to media and new media products, as accurate information and access to public debate are essential for democracy.
“This programme represents a modern European ‘agora’ – in the spirit of the ancient Athenian public square – where citizens, young people, and communities together shape Europe’s future. It is a great honour to receive a rapporteur mandate for the 11th time, and I will work to ensure that as much of these resources as possible reach Europe, Harghita County, and the Ciuc region,” said Csaba Borboly.
The rapporteur underlined that AgoraEU will only be successful if it does not remain a symbol, but becomes a real tool for communities – by financing debate forums, festivals, youth scholarships, digital platforms, and media projects.
