Brussels is the scene of important decisions!-We focused on biodiversity and coexistence with large carnivors

The illegal killing of large carnivores, which is becoming increasingly widespread in Romania, threatens local biodiversity and social cohesion due to a lack of regulation and control.

In Romania, we have seen many negative experiences in this regard, as legal measures are often overridden and their effectiveness is undermined.

It is encouraging, however, that at EU level, both the Belgian Presidency and Hungary, which will take over the Presidency on 1 July, will treat this issue as a priority.

Today’s meeting was an opportunity to promote the Committee of the Regions’ position on biodiversity conservation and coexistence with large carnivores in Europe.

I stressed the need for an effective derogation system to deal with complex situations where human activities cross large carnivore habitats.

It is therefore important to have a voice in Brussels and to raise awareness of the everyday problems that affect us!
