Borboly Csaba: Local communities play a key role in the success of EU enlargement
The European Committee of the Regions conference in Sarajevo took place with great success, where Borboly Csaba, Vice President of Harghita County Council, delivered a speech in his new role as Chair of the Working Group for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The participating mayors and international experts highly praised his proposals, which emphasized the active involvement of local authorities, listening to the voices of communities, and early preparation in the EU accession process.
“EU enlargement is not only a political decision, but also a local project – people need to feel the benefits in their streets, schools, and towns. This is why mayors and communities must be involved from the very beginning,” said Borboly Csaba.
He added: “Szeklerland needs long-term allies. The EU’s western enlargement is important for us, as it allows us to gain new partners in future European decision-making.”
In his speech, he presented concrete examples from Romania’s accession experience, pointing out not only successful local projects but also the challenges from which municipalities in the Western Balkans can learn.
According to the conference feedback, Borboly Csaba’s messages and proposals can give new momentum to Bosnian municipalities and to the enlargement process.
